Homeowners Insurance

When it comes to homeowners insurance there are different levels of coverage that from protect from various perils. Many of these coverages are optional therefore you need to be familiar with them to ensure your home is adequately protected.

Basic Coverage – HO-1

A basic homeowners policy will cover:

  • Fire

  • Lighting

  • Smoke

  • Windstorm

  • Explosion/Implosion

  • Vandalism or malicious mischief

  • Hail

  • Riots or civil commotion

  • Theft

  • Damage from an aircraft or vehicle

  • Volcanic eruptions

Broad Coverage HO-3

Broad coverage covers everything included in basic coverage plus:

  • Falling objects

  • Weight of Ice and snow

  • Accidental overflow of water or stream

  • Damage from frozen pipes

  • Damaged caused by malfunctioning appliances

  • Accidental damage from electric generators

Comprehensive Coverage HO-5

Comprehensive covers all perils except those specifically and explicitly excluded from your policy. (i.e. flooding)

  • Covers all perils except those specifically excluded by your policy.

Additional Coverage:

There are certain things that simply not covered under most homeowners policies. Coverage for these things can only be obtained through supplemental policies. These things include:

  • Movement of the ground caused by earthquake, volcanic eruption, mud/landslide and sinkholes.

  • Ordinance of law regulating construction, repair or demolition of a structure.

  • Damage from rising water caused by floods, tidal water, waves and water below the surface.

  • War

  • Nuclear hazards

  • Power failure caused by an uninsured peril

  • Intentional acts (by the owner)

  • Neglect
